The ensemble’s newest member, percussionist Mark Segger, has long been performing with UltraViolet musicians in the Violet Collective, Damn Magpies, and a variety of projects involving contemporary composition and / or improvisation. Mark makes frequent appearances with the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra, leads the free improvisation ensemble (XiME) at the University of Alberta, and has released two critically acclaimed recordings of his compositions with the Toronto-based Mark Segger Sextet, The Beginning (2011), and Lift off (2020). As an improviser, he has performed with Dave Burrell, Lina Allemano, Nate Wooley, Steve Swell, and many others across North America and Europe.
